Hi, my name is Yani Shi and I am an International student from China. I am currently studying a full-time MSc Accounting and Financial Management student at Lancaster University, although I have already achieved a BSc undergraduate degree in e-Finance at University of Liverpool and BSc in Information Management and Information Systems at Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University.

I found out about accounting and finance from my parents when I was young – and was influenced by them. I first heard about ACCA when I was in high school. At the time I knew that it would be very difficult to get this accounting qualification but hoped that one day I would get an opportunity to study ACCA.

After some studying and seeing a career coach at university, I found accounting really interesting. I also have strong analytical and numerical skills, so I decided to choose accountancy as my career. After an introductory talk about ACCA with my tuition provider at university and my own research, I found out that ACCA covers a wide range of subjects – from performance management, auditing, taxation and law through to management and financial accounting, so I knew it would give me flexibility in my career choice.

I began studying ACCA in the summer of 2009. I also opted into the degree programme offered by ACCA and Oxford Brookes University, and I got BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting in March 2012. I’ve now I completed F1-F9 and P3, and I am going to complete my remaining four papers by the end of this year. I am currently searching for a professional role in the financial services sector and hope to become an ACCA member as soon as possible.
